PR Plastics

A brand made of pellets

The visual identity of a new company that turns LDPE film waste into recycled pellets, giving plastic a second life. We built every element of the system, from the logo to the icons, out of dots, the very thing that comes off the recycling line.

See how it was made

Starting point

A new company that had to look experienced from day one

PR Plastics is a new company within a group that has worked in plastics recycling for years. It takes in LDPE film waste and turns it into recycled pellets that become new products. The client came to us with a name already chosen, the group's catalogue and a list of European competitors.

The brief was specific: the brand should be associated with advanced technology and the circular economy, not with fashion. Instead of a light, delicate typeface, the client wanted solid, engineering-style typography, two shades of blue and a dot motif that refers to the recycled pellets. The mark also had to show that the new brand stands on a well-thought-out strategy and a solid business foundation.

What the mark should say

  • Professionalism
  • Experience
  • Modernity
  • Experts
  • Reliability
  • Rawness
  • Eco

What we were asked to do

  1. a logo with and without the claim
  2. a visual key: typeface, colours, photo and icon style
  3. a dot pattern for business cards, letterheads and banners
  4. layouts for a poster and Facebook posts

Claim

Ten proposals, one signature

The client sent ten versions of the claim. The most matter-of-fact one, Plastic Recycling Technology, went into the mark, set in three lines next to the name. The second, Our Future depends on Recycling, works in posts and on posters.

Mark

A dot set into the letter P

The logo is purely typographic. The only change is to the two letters P: we replaced the top end of the vertical stroke with a dot, the same dot the whole system is built from. The A without a crossbar gives the name a technical, engineering look.

The brand guidelines cover the version with and without the claim, clear space measured from the gap between PR and PLASTICS, and variants on the brand's three backgrounds, in white and in black.

Colour variant

Brand guidelines: ten boards on the logo's construction, clear space, variants, colours, typeface and visual key.

Icons

The life of plastic film, told in dots

The icons carry the motif further: we drew each one entirely from dots, without a single continuous line. Placed side by side, they tell the story of what the company does, from a used plastic bag to pellets that go back into production.

Typography and colour

One type family, two blues

Barlow has a technical, slightly rounded design and many weights, so one family covers headings, the claim and small print. The two blues came straight from the brief: the light one carries technology, the dark one solidity.

Materials

A dot pattern on paper, on walls and in the feed

From the dots we built a background pattern that runs out from under the logo on business cards and letterheads, and large shapes on A1 posters: circles, a plant with a leaf, the trace of a loop. The same layouts, cropped to a square, became post templates.

The whole identity in one video: logo, icons, posters, posts, letterhead and merchandise.

Squares, landscape graphics for links and a vertical format for stories, in the three brand colours. The photo of the sorting hall comes from a stock library.

Five weeks from brief to file package

Five weeks passed between the brief and the package of finished files. In that time we made the logo, brand guidelines, company materials, posters, posts and icons, all ready for print and for the client's team to work with on their own.

With this set, PR Plastics was ready to enter a competitive market, with an image that matches the company's character and mission.
